Look Toward the Heavens

Look Toward the Heavens by bichonphoto
Look Toward the Heavens, a photo by bichonphoto on Flickr.

This is a small church in Largo. The clouds were very dramatic and this steeple looked very nice set in front of them. Photo was taken in Camera+. I next opened the photo in Photocopier and applied the b/w effect by using the process effect of platinum palladium by Auerbach. Finally, I applied the black border in PhotoStudio.

Angles on History

Angles on History by bichonphoto
Angles on History, a photo by bichonphoto on Flickr.

The Tampa Bay History Museum has a very modern exterior with interesting angles. It's great to have a museum that houses much of the history from the area where you live. Camera+ was used to take the photo and I applied Clarity scene and the the LoFi FX effect. I saved this version and then brought it back into the app and applied the cloudy scene with the vibrant FX effect. Finally, in the Bad-Camera app, I applied several effects and then added the transparent border.

When in Tampa, a great place to lunch is the Nordstrom Bistro. This is their Asian Glazed Chicken Salad. Yummy! Photo was taken with Camera+ app. I applied the food scene, miniaturize FX effect and an instant border.

The day is done.

The day is done. by bichonphoto
The day is done., a photo by bichonphoto on Flickr.

Last shot of the Redington Pier for awhile, I promise. This photo was taken in the 100Cameras app. Next it was processed in the Photocopier app using the Holmes Infrared Beaver Creek Dock effect. This app applies effects to make your pictures in the style of famous painters, photographers and movie producers. In the Befunky app, I applied a drop shadow frame and finally, in Bad Camera, I added some additional framing.

Pier Side 2

Another shot of the Long Pier at Redington Shores; this time from the opposite direction. It was shot in the 100 Cameras App and had several effects applied within that app. Next I brought it into the Photostudio App and applied an antique canvas effect and then applied a border as well.

The Long Pier

The Long Pier by bichonphoto
The Long Pier, a photo by bichonphoto on Flickr.
The Long Pier at Redington Shores is a splendid place to watch the sunset and take photos. There is the pier, sand dunes, birds, people and of course the water. Several apps were used to create this photo. I starting by taking the picture with an iPhone 4 using the iCameraHDR app and applied the normal tone mapping. Then I cropped, adjusted exposure, and applied a border in PS Express. Next I applied the 50% candy filter from the Best Camera app. Finally it was processed in Snapseed using the Drama 2 effect. I love the painterly quality of the photo. Below are several more photos from this session taken with the Nikon D7000.

Tropical Grunge Atrium

Tropical Grunge Atrium by bichonphoto
Tropical Grunge Atrium, a photo by bichonphoto on Flickr.

This is the atrium at the M & I Bank building in Tampa. This shot was a lesson in photographing other's property. I had stepped into an exterior atrium when security came out, on a Sunday, and inquired what I was taking pictures of. When I said artistic photos of the exterior, I was informed that no photo taking was allowed on the property, but they did not ask me to give up the pictures that I had taken. I think they may have been bored. Photo was taken with Camera+ app and then processed with grunge effect in the Snapseed app. I love this app.

Legal Eagle

Legal Eagle by bichonphoto
Legal Eagle, a photo by bichonphoto on Flickr.

This is 500 E Kennedy Blvd in Tampa. It is currently an office building that houses several law firms. I am not sure what the building used to be. I love the reflections in the windows, all the eagle reliefs and the detail work along the roof line. This picture was taken with the iPhone 4 using the Camera+ app. It was post processed in a fantastic iPad app called Snapseed.

To the Skies by bichonphoto
To the Skies, a photo by bichonphoto on Flickr.

This building is the Suntrust Building in downtown Tampa. It is a beautiful building that has a pointed top that is lit up at night. During different times of the year, they change the colors of the lights to reflect a holiday, such as red, white and blue for the 4th of July. Camera+ photo with clarity scene, expired FX effect and vintage frame.

The Grapefruit Barber

The Grapefruit Barber by bichonphoto
The Grapefruit Barber, a photo by bichonphoto on Flickr.
Another of the grapefruit murals in Safety Harbor; this time outside a barber shop. Photo was taken in Camera+ app with auto scene applied. A 50% yellow filter was applied in the Best Camera app. The neon lighting was applied with the Glow Paint app. I did another form of light painting over the weekend, which is shown below. The was done with the Nikon D7000 by holding the shutter open for 10 seconds and painting the subject with a flaslight. Turned out a little dark, but very cool technique.

A Hot Night

A Hot Night by bichonphoto
A Hot Night, a photo by bichonphoto on Flickr.
Strolling Main Street in Safety Harbor, I came across this building that appeared as though it was on fire. Luckily, it wasn't and was just a very unusual shadow being created by the setting sun. Shot was taken in Camera+ app, with the flash scene applied, X-Pro C41 FX effect and dark grit border.

BBQ Bike

While walking down Main St. in Safety Harbor, I spotted this unusual neon beer sign featuring a motorcycle. Photo was captured in Camera+. I cropped, applied the darken effect, used the tailfin FX effect, applied a white grit boarder and then in Best Camera, I applied the yellow filter.

The Dancers

The Dancers by bichonphoto
The Dancers, a photo by bichonphoto on Flickr.

Downtown Safety Harbor has beautiful, large gazebo where I caught a young couple dancing; perhaps practicing for their upcoming wedding. Camera+ was used to capture the photo and crop it. Then I applied the backlit scene, the Diana FX effect and a vignette border.

Grapefruit Lunch

Grapefruit Lunch by bichonphoto

Walking in downtown Safety Harbor, I came across this lovely patio with a grapefruit splat mural. Like other Florida towns, Safety Harbor has themed murals throughout the city. There are many different grapefruits painted on the buildings. Photo was captured in the Camera+ app with auto scene applied and a vintage border. I then applied the 50% yellow filter in the Best Camera app.

The Whistle Stop Cafe is located in downtown Safety Harbor. This restaurant has delicious food like the orange lime chicken pictured below and outdoor porch seating in the back. They have live music several nights of the week. This photo was taken in the Camera+ app with the clarity scene applied. Next the retro FX effect of Lo-Fi was applied. Finally the dark grit border was applied.

Soul Men Layover

Soul Men Layover by bichonphoto
Soul Men Layover, a photo by bichonphoto on Flickr.
The infamous Blues Brothers, Jake Blues (John Belushi) and Elwood Blues (Dan Aykroyd,) dancing and singing their hearts out at the Chicago Midway airport. This photo was taken with the TrueHDR app as it was impossible to get a good exposure with the bright window in the background and the dark subjects. The photo was still dark even using this app. I lightened it up further in the Bad-Camera app by applying a yellowish effect 1 and then applied a grunge effect 2; followed by a transparent edge border. I next took that photo into the Iris app and applied a retro FX effect. My next post will take us back to Tampa Bay photos. I hope you enjoyed our brief Minnesota respite.

A Place to Retire

A Place to Retire by bichonphoto
A Place to Retire, a photo by bichonphoto on Flickr.
This is one of the older buildings at the Minnesota Veteran's Home. It was the original administration building. It was once called the Old Soldier’s Home and was established in 1887 for indigent veterans of the Civil War. It is located on a 51 acre wooded campus overlooking the Mississippi River near Minnehaha Falls. Their philosophy is a “willingness to serve in an environment of person-centered care with compassion, accountability, respect and dignity with excellence as our standard.” The Home provides skilled nursing care, which includes Alzheimer’s/dementia care, domiciliary care and adult day care will be available in the near future. This photo was taken in the TrueHDR app. Below is a circa 1900 photo of this building and a mapquest view of where this building is located.

At the Depot, a photo by bichonphoto on Flickr.
This photo was taken in downtown White Bear Lake, Minnesota. I was meeting my friend Robyn from college. We had not seen each other for 33 years. Lots has happened over the years, but it was like time had stood still. It was very good to see her. Depot photo was taken in the Camera+ app with the Tailfins effect and a thin white border.

Trio Inn Auto

I was driving through Centerville Minnesota when I saw this old mural that had been painted on the side of a well worn garage located next to the Trio Inn, which I believe is primarily a pub. Photo was taken with the iPhone camera with HDR on. Subsequent effects were applied in the Camera+ app.

Graduation Day

Graduation Day by bichonphoto
Graduation Day, a photo by bichonphoto on Flickr.
After my nieces high school graduation ceremony, we had to walk past the Landmark Center, in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota. This is the city government building, and there was a fantastic sunset behind it. Since this is in the northern latitudes, you can see that it stays light out later from the clock on the tower. I like the women in their gowns by the fountain and the movement of the graduate in the foreground. This photo was taken with the TrueHDR app and adjusted in the Mill Colour app.

Sunday Brunch

Sunday Brunch by bichonphoto

Fabulous dining room of the Saint Paul Hotel in downtown St. Paul, MN. During their Sunday brunch, they serve freshly baked sticky buns. Yummy! One of my favorite things in life. What a great surprise. I will be back. Photo was taken with Camera+ app. The Diana FX effect was applied along with an Old-timey border.

Summer's Berries

Summer's Berries by bichonphoto
Summer's Berries, a photo by bichonphoto on Flickr.

Awe! The summer berries are here and they are looking fantastic in red, white and blue. Photo was created in my current favorite app, Camera+. I used the fluorescent scene, miniaturize fx effect, and light grit border as the recipe in that app, followed by the 50% blue filter in the Best Camera app.
