The Bay Pines VA in St. Petersburg has beautiful buildings and this is the Post Office. What a great place to mail a letter. Photo was taken with the Camera+ app using the Clarity scene, FX Effect of Diana and an offset border. Who knew snail mail could be so exciting?

Memorial Day and we remember all those who lost their lives fighting for freedom. Picture was taken with the Camera+ app and Clarity was applied as the scene; the FX effect was Miniaturize, which gives a tilt-shift look and then a vintage border was added.

The Columbia Restaurant

The Columbia Restaurant by bichonphoto
The Columbia Restaurant, a photo by bichonphoto on Flickr.

The Hernandez Gonzmart family has operated this historic restaurant since 1905 when they opened in Tampa's Historic Ybor City, which today is Florida's Oldest restaurant, and the World's Largest Spanish restaurant. Today, 4th & 5th generation family members work hard to preserve the family's legacy that their great-grandfather Casimiro Hernandez Sr. created over 100 years ago when he opened the Columbia as a corner café frequented by local cigar workers. They have a fantastic 1905 salad, which is a favorite of mine. This photo was taken with the HDR Pro app and then fine tuned in PS Express by making exposure and saturation adjustments. The lower photo is a three exposure HDR taken with the Nikon 7000 and processed in Photomatix Pro using tonemapping with a grunge effect.

In Florida, the plumeria are blooming. I took two photos into the Iris Photo Suite and blended them together and applied several surface textures. Finally I added the 50% candy filter in the Best Camera app plus a white border.

Mouse Art, a photo by bichonphoto on Flickr.

Camera+ is a fantastic app for taking pictures with the iPhone. That app took this photo of a computer mouse and what is cool about it is that you can adjust the focal point and white balance before you take the shot. Next the photo was processed in Lo-Mob using the Ho-Mob Reloaded filter. Then I went back into Camera+ and applied the black border.

Bridge Art

Bridge Art by bichonphoto
Bridge Art, a photo by bichonphoto on Flickr.

Bellair Causeway Bridge has metal sculptures on either end. This one is part of a set of three sail-like columns at the west end. Photo was taken with an iPhone. Next it was processed in the Photo Copier app two times. The first time I applied the movie effect " Back to the Future," which gave the screening the blue look. I adjusted the color and texture sliders. The second time I applied the process effect of Gum Bichonate, which gave the rich copper texture. I adjusted the color and texture sliders. Then I used PhotoWizard to blend the two images by masking the copper in the "BTTF" image and using the normal blend mode. Finally I masked the copper part of this combined image and applied the Blueprint effect and then, in Best Camera app, I applied the border. The Impression app is an easy way to add the watermark.

A rare moment when these two were sitting so close to one another. Processed in PS Express adjusting crop, exposure, contrast and saturation. Next in PhotoStudio, I applied the Napa effect and a border.

Pink Magnolia

Pink Magnolia by bichonphoto
Pink Magnolia, a photo by bichonphoto on Flickr.

Pink Magnolia was created in SketchBook by layering the photo with a color layer in which pink and green paint were applied. Then in PS Express it was cropped with saturation and sharpening applied. I don't think they really grow them pink but would be beautiful if they did.

Treasure Island is a wonderful beach community on the Gulf of Mexico. As you are entering the island, you run into the Thunderbird Motel and its glorious neon sign. This is an Instagram photo applying tiltshift over the sign and the Hefe effect. Below is an HDR from the Nikon D 7000, which was processed in Photomatix Pro, using 3 exposures 2 stops apart.

Below the bridge

Below the bridge by bichonphoto
Below the bridge, a photo by bichonphoto on Flickr.

Beautiful sunset was reflecting on the clouds to the East under the Bellair Causeway Bridge on the West side. There were many shore birds there as people were net fishing. The birds appeared to be so tame and unafraid of people. IPhone photo was created in Photostudio app which contains over 180 effects that may be applied in combination. Unfortunately I did not keep track of the 4-5 effects that were applied to this photo as I was overwhelmed with so many possibilities.

Port Tampa Cottage by bichonphoto
Port Tampa Cottage, a photo by bichonphoto on Flickr.
Many of the homes in the Tampa Bay area can have a certain Key West feel to them, as this one certainly does. Part of this photo was created in Toon Paint and the other part was created in PS Express by adjusting exposure, saturation, contrast, sharpening, and added a vignette blur effect. Then the two images were combined in Blend Cam with darkness priority. Posted below is the original iPhone photo that was taken with HDR on.

Located in St. Petersburg, Derby Lane was built in 1925 and is the oldest greyhound track in the USA. It has dog racing 6 days a week, simulcast racing, poker room and a club restaurant overlooking the track that serves a fabulous buffet with rime rib, shrimp and crab legs. Photo was tweaked in PS Express by straightening, adjusting exposure, saturation and contrast. Finally a soft edge border was applied.

Next the photo was further cropped in Paintme using 32 layers, crazy colors, beginning with highlights, highest detail, precise strokes, and thinner paint. Finally Best Camera applied a 50% yellow filter.

A mail slot on the historic Johnson Building in Largo FL. This building was originally built in 1911 as a hotel. Now it is rather dilapidated and in need of repair. The mail slot photo was taken in Hipstamatic using the Watts Lens, Big Up film and Laser Lemon Gel flash. The overlay was created in BlendCam using the superimpose balance method. Finally the Best Camera app adjusted contrast and added a yellow filter. Below is a shot of the front entrance to the Johnson Building where the mail slot is located.

Port Tampa City Hall

This is the old City Hall (Commerce Bank Building)(circa 1947) from a city that no longer exists named Port Tampa. Port Tampa, aka Passage Point or Black Point was established in 1887. This Port was the debarkation point for the Spanish-American War invasion of Cuba. Teddy Roosevelt and his staff stayed at several homes in this port city. The building, a neoclassical style, is now a public library and Port Tampa is a suburb of Tampa, when it was annexed by the city in 1961. The upper photo was created in True HDR app and then cropped in Crop'n'Frame app. Further processing occurred in the Lo-Mob app where the 6x6 TTV Grid of the 80's 2 effect was applied. The picture below is the pre-processed photo from the True HDR app. In the next several days, I will post more photos of this historic southern city.

Cozy Conversation, a photo by bichonphoto on Flickr.

What could be better than sharing your favorite beverage, with another, while basking in the glow of a tropical sunset at the Don? This cozy spot overlooks the pool and powdery white sand beach of the Gulf of Mexico. This iPhone photo was cropped in Crop'n'Frame and then created in PhotoWizard adjusting the shadow/highlights slider, the exposure/brightness/contrast sliders and then the application of the cross process filter using mixer #4, adding a border and the soften effect.

Photo was created in ToonPAINT to look like a cartoon and then in Halftone to make it look like an old fashioned cartoon.

Don CeSar

This is the Don CeSar, the infamous "Pink Lady," located in St. Petersburg Beach. Photo was taken with iPhone and process in Mill Colour app to make the colors pop. It was known as Florida’s Pink Castle or Pink Palace when it opened back in 1928. It has Mediterranean and Moorish architectural motifs, a distinctive coral pink facade, and a tropical setting, which all stand out against the blue Floridian sky. Originally named after Don Ce-Sar in Vincent Wallace’s light opera Maritana, the Don (as it is locally known) was built by Thomas Rowe. It has marble fountains, lofty ceilings, rich furnishings, and gorgeous views of the Gulf of Mexico or Boca Ciega Bay. The Don served as a hospital during World War II and later a Veterans Administration office. By the late 1960s the building was abandoned. It was purchased, restored and reopened in 1973. Now a full-service resort, the Don CeSar offers easy access to the beach, golf shuttles, two pools, a full-service fitness center and spa, children’s activities, daily sailing and wave-running clinics. It also has several top notch restaurants, including "Maritana."

This HDR photo was taken with the  Nikon D7000 and 55-200 mm lens. A normal exposure was combined with an over and under exposed version and then tone mapped in Photomatix Pro.

Belleair Beach Causeway Bridge.

This bridge connects Largo and Belleair Beach. It is high enough for boats to sail beneath it. Sunsets are quite spectacular in FL as we are right at sea level and can see the sun meet the edge of the horizon. This photo was slightly processed in Mill Colour app.

This Clearwater office building was basking in the warm glow of sunset. Part of the sad state of the economy, it appears to sit primarily vacant these days. Photo was created in TrueHDR app and then further processed in Pictureshow by using the Stereogram filter, vintage stain frame, light leak 1 and sand noise. Finally it has the application of the 50% contrast filter in the Best Camera app.
